Learning Activities
Begin by reading your personal book for 15 minutes.
Open your class book and complete the activities below. Title the work Chapters 12-14 Review and the date.
1. In chapter 12 the reader learns why colour does not exist in the community. Explain what 'sameness' is and give 2 reasons why you think this would benefit the world you live in, and 2 reasons why it would not.
2. Research and write about what happens to colour as we dive deeper into water. Give an exact explanation, including depths. This could be through a chart.
3. Research and write about why red objects appear red to the human eye. Drawing a diagram may support your explanation.
4. Why do you think that the Receiver keeps the painful memories of the community instead of removing them totally? Give an example from the chapters you read.
5. Why does Jonas give Gabriel a memory? What is the memory and why do you think Jonas selects that specific one to share?
6. What memory would you have chosen to share with baby Gabriel and why?
If you finish you can read your personal reading book.

Let's review your work from last class.
Let's read the chapter 15 of The Giver and you will design 2 open-ended questions like those I gave you yesterday. Type up a final copy into this document.
Home Learning:
Read the next 3 chapters of The Giver (ch. 16,17+18). Finish any school work.
Day C
Begin by reading your personal reading book for 15 minutes.
We will then give feedback on the questions you created last class.
Let's look at our final project for the Creating a Hopeful Future unit and divide up into our teams.
Part 1 to be completed by Tuesday's class.
SORRY. I'M SICK
Day E
-You begin with 15 minutes personal reading reflection in the back of your book as we do each Friday. Write the date and Week 5 (is it week 5?).
Today you can write 150-200 words to compare your reading of your personal book with something from 15/16/17 of The Giver.
This could be comparing 2 characters that are similar or different in a table. A theme that's the same with examples of how for each text, something exciting in the plot you learned...it's your choice.
If you are done before 15 minutes, read your book. If you don't finish, take it home.
-It's teamwork time. Open up the collaborative doc. you made. Share it with Ms. Kirsty! Articulate your goals to your team then begin your personal research on your 1 feature for the city you chose. Keep the noise to a minimum to allow people to read and think and write.
-Last 10 minutes of class, each person should summarise what they have discovered and what they still need to find out. Give feedback if formatting could be improved or there are mistakes. We cannot plagiarise!
